I’m all about saving money…just ask my mom.  I’m also a big believer in recycling and re-using items.  I’m not sure where I originally got the idea for this, but it is a really great way to dry herbs, protect the environment, and save money all at the same time.  What’s not to like.

Basically, the drying rack is merely and old picture frame with a screen attached to the back.  You can ad hooks on each corner, hang chains on the hooks and suspend it in the air for proper air circulation.  This particular “model” does not have the hooks or chains.

Here is a view of the back of the frame which shows the staples which attach the screen to the frame.  I was fortunate to have some old screen from our screened in porch and I got the picture frame from my father-n-law who is a wood worker.  The screen is cut slighly bigger than the opening of the frame.  If you don’t have a staple gun you could always attach the screen using tacks and a hammer.

So the next time your out at a garage sale or thrift store you can be on the hunt for old frames and screen.  Who knows…you might even be lucky enough to have some of these items already on hand.
